Jackie Rush

Africa, Celebration Vacations, Europe

After college I was given a trip to Europe with passage on the great ship, the U S America. I was with my best friend and we were going to stay as long as we had money...well we lasted a year!

We had the great fortune to stay at 2 US Embassies (London and Paris) as my Father had both of the Ambassadors for roommates at Yale University. London became our home for a month and we knew it like the back of our hand. We toured the countryside, ending up in Ireland where we stayed for a few weeks and we fox hunted with 3 different hunts (both of us were accomplished riders). On to Paris, where we lived in a B & B on the left bank and got to know Paris very well. Then we continued to Austria where we skied in 4 different resorts and then to Italy where we fell in love with the beautiful cities of Rome, Florence and Venice.

We never wanted to go home, but we had spent all our money. However, this was the start of my wanderlust! Luckily, I was offered a job in the travel business and my employer sent me to all the exotic places, like the opening of Myanmar, Bhutan, Lhasa Tibet and also Jordan. Thus, I consider myself so very lucky to have been able to continue to search the world and enjoy so many fabulous experiences that I can share with my clients. I always say to my clients I can send you anywhere in the world as I have wonderful contacts everywhere.

Safari is my passion and I am thrilled to be on Travel and Leisure magazine A List for Safari. The happiest moment in my entire journey in the travel business was an invitation to be a member of the coveted Connoisseur Club of Abercrombie & Kent. The first overseas journey with the Club was to Kenya with Jeff and Jorie Kent and this was my first introduction to a first rate safari.

I knew on the first day of safari that this was where I belonged. I went home and called everyone I knew and told them they must go on safari with their children! I succeeded in getting many of my pals to do this and many of them are still returning to Africa.

During my time in the business, I have gone to Africa almost every year and I know many of the best guides, camps, and locations at any time of the year. I have gone on safari in all the African countries, except Uganda to see the gorillas and I hope to do that with my family next year!
